Current density from turbulence in a protoplanetary disk

This diagram depicts the electric current, or current density (the current per unit volume), that results from all the magnetic turbulence that is induced by the magnetorotational instability. The particular simulation is not subject to ambipolar diffusion but instead represents the ideal limit where no diffusion effects are important. Credit: Simon et al. 2013
