Following a WINFOUCS Ultrasound course, newly trained Amir Seni, M.D., in Beira, Mozambique, is executing an ultrasound exam on himself, with the help of Detroit-based Scott A. Dulchavsky, M.D., through a video conference. The use of telemedicine to conduct ultrasound exams has been repeated in under-served locations around the world and on the International Space Station. The tele-ultrasound techniques are the result of research funded by the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) and NASA for use during spaceflight. Credit: Image courtesy of Scott A.
