False colour map of the surface of Vesta made using data from the framing camera (FC). The RGB colours used in this map represent ratios of the intensity of reflection at different wavelengths of light. These ratios are diagnostic of different surface materials. The huge diversity of Vesta's surface is striking. The graph on the right shows a typical colour spectrum of material comparable with Vesta. The dots indicate the FC colour filter bands and the red dots indicate the wavelengths that were used to colour code the map. The boxes indicate zoom views shown in the following slides.
