Hubble Ultra Deep Field galaxies
08/29/12

A sample of galaxies captured as part of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field – our deepest ever look into the distant Universe. The faintest galaxies seen in this image existed when the Universe was less than a billion years old but some of them already had abundances of heavy elements sufficient to begin building planets.
