Just submitted my abstract to the 2011 Fall AGU meeting… with two minutes to spare! Now I’m celebrating the traditional AGU way: a really hoppy beer… as well as the “new” AGU way: a blog post!! 3… In today’s issue of Science, there was a wonderfully-written review on the future of seawater desalination. Future water shortages could be the most under-reported and under-appreciated environmental issue we face. But when you tell someone that, the initial response is something like: “But.... |

Just finished an interesting suite of model runs before typing this up quickly and heading to bed… 3… Mark your calendars! AbSciCon 2012 will be held April 16-20, 2012 in Atlanta, GA…. 2… SpaceX has its eyes set on Mars. Compelling vision, to be sure. But let’s get our astronauts safely to the ISS and home again first, OK?… 1… That’s no moon…. The Dawn team released stunning photos of Vesta today… there will be some excellent science coming out.... |

I was wiped last night and couldn’t write. Here are a few things from the last two days to take note of: 3… RNA tagging is here! Some brilliant folks figured out how to make videos of RNA movements in the cell, with the details published in this week’s issue of Science. I’m sure you’ll be seeing some astrobiological applications of this work over the next decade. 2… Science also gives the scoop on how the MSL team chose Gale.... |

This is my last night at Wallops Flight Center. I’ll write more about the course and the wonderful people here on Friday… 3… Nature had a news piece today about the shutdown of the Allen Array, what it means for SETI, and where SETI is headed in the future… 2… Get your AGU abstracts together! They’re due in a week. Submit them here… 1… The Earth’s first trojan asteroid was announced today. More in tomorrow’s edition of Nature… LAUNCH! |

I’m at a course on planning spaceflight missions this week. This is what what was exhausting me last week, too. Anyways, not much time to blog so it’s short tonight… 3… Lots of people are leaving NASA. I think most of this is fallout from the merging of the Explorations Systems Mission Directorate and the Space Operations Mission Directorate. You can get the details over at NASA Watch. 2… The speed of light is still a real limit, and time.... |
