AbSciCon2012 Proposals Due… SATURDAY!

POSTED BY: S. DOMAGAL-GOLDMAN

To the non-scientists reading this blog… apologies for the brief “inside-the-synchrotron” interlude. To my colleagues… get your butts in gear! Session proposals for AbSciCon 2012 are due this week. Because we work in an interdisciplinary field, it is imperative that our meetings be organized from the ground up. Thus, it’s up to us to make sure the topics we want to discuss are covered at the meeting. Here’s the blurb on the website on this: Astrobiology is an inherently interdisciplinary....

If you ever been to a Gordon Conference, you’ll know what I am talking about… Gordon Conferences are the best! The attendee number for GRC is limited therefore you don’t get lost, subjects are very narrowed and focused so....

POSTED BY: DRFUNKYSPOON

A news story showcasing new observations of surprising changes in the upper atmosphere of Venus has been all over the place this week. I always like seeing my second favorite planet getting some media love.  The press release was nicely written, putting the new findings in the context of changing historical ideas about the Venusian atmosphere. But the headline (which is all that, oh I don’t know maybe 99 %? of readers ever see) really bugged me.  Widely blasted around the....

Origins @ Yale – Astrobiology lecture series starts soon!

POSTED BY: BETüL KACAR

While Julia, Ariel and Dimitra highlighted very well why studying astrobiology is awesome, an astrobiology lecture series aptly named “Origins” has been initiated by Yale University. I highly recommend attending these lectures if you are interested in learning more on astrobiology. I especially liked how the lectures are announced: [Astrobiology] is a science that has yet to demonstrate that its subject matter exists… However… and hell, is that a big ‘however’! Without further due, here are the list of speakers:....
