  • A goldilocks zone for planet size

    Oct 14, 2019
In a recent paper, Harvard University researchers described a new, lower size limit for planets to maintain surface liquid water for long periods of time, extending the so-called Habitable or "Goldilocks’’ Zone for small, low-gravity planets.

  • Stellar winds, the source material for the universe, are clumpy

    Feb 1, 2019
Data recorded by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory of a neutron star as it passed through a dense patch of stellar wind emanating from its massive companion star provide valuable insight about the structure and composition of stellar winds and about the environment of the neutron

  • GAIA REVEALS HOW SUN-LIKE STARS TURN SOLID AFTER THEIR DEMISE

    Jan 27, 2019
Data captured by ESA’s galaxy-mapping spacecraft Gaia has revealed for the first time how white dwarfs, the dead remnants of stars like our Sun, turn into solid spheres as the hot gas inside them cools down. This process of solidification, or crystallisation, of the material

  • Mystery orbits in outermost reaches of solar system not caused by ‘Planet Nine’

    Jan 26, 2019
The strange orbits of some objects in the farthest reaches of our solar system can instead be explained by the combined gravitational force of small objects orbiting the Sun beyond Neptune, say researchers.
